What Does Employment Look Like?
U.S. News & World Report ranked medical records technicians (professionals that perform medical billing, medical coding, or both) as #1 on its list of "25 Best Jobs that Don't Require a College Degree" and #4 in "Best Health Care Support Jobs." Jobs are expected to grow 9% by 2033, with about 14,900 openings for medical records specialists projected each year, on average, over the decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Today, most medical billers and coders work remotely (work from home), in hospitals, physician offices, nursing facilities, or corporate offices.
